Texas Appellate Hall of Fame

The Texas Appellate Hall of Fame recognizes distinguished judges, attorneys, and court personnel who have made unique contributions to the practice of appellate law in Texas from the mid-1850s to the present. The award is given jointly by the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section and the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society.

Admission to the Texas Appellate Hall of Fame is open only to attorneys, judges, and court personnel who are no longer living. Inductees are selected based on their written and oral appellate advocacy, pro bono service, and other indicators of excellence in the practice of appellate law in Texas.

The Texas Appellate Hall of Fame Board of Trustees consists of twelve members: the Chair of the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Texas; the President of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society; and an additional ten members, with five chosen by the Chair of the Appellate Section and five chosen by the President of the Historical Society. These additional ten trustees must be members of the Appellate Section and are appointed annually in mid-July. All members of the Board of Trustees are listed on the websites for the Appellate Section and the Historical Society.

The primary obligation of the trustees is to vote on a slate of nominees for possible induction into the Texas Appellate Hall of Fame. Other duties can include suggesting amendments to the by-laws of the Texas Appellate Hall of Fame and voting on suggested amendments.

The following individuals will be inducted into the Texas Appellate Hall of Fame at the induction ceremony to be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017:

The Honorable Jack Pope
Ms. Helen A. Cassidy
Mr. Donald M. Hunt

The induction ceremony will be held in conjunction with the State Bar of Texas’ Advanced Civil Appellate seminar, and a reception will follow.
